Renato Veiga signs for FCA on loan
Portugal U20s captain arrives in Augsburg
FC Augsburg have strengthened their defensive options with the loan signing of Portugal U20s captain Renato Veiga from Sporting Lisbon until 31st December 2023.
FCA have also agreed a buy option for the 19-year-old, who came through the Sporting academy and can play in both defensive midfield and at centre-back. The 1.90-metre-tall left-footer has played the full 90 minutes in five of his side’s six UEFA Youth League matches this season.
“As one of Europe’s top leagues, I’ve followed the Bundesliga for a while, so I’m really excited to get the chance to show what I can do at FCA. Augsburg have a coach who puts his faith in young players, and I’m convinced that this is the right move for me at the right time,” said Veiga.
“Renato Vaiga is a defensive all-rounder and with his physical attributes, his tackling ability and his strong left foot, he is a smart addition to our squad. He comes across as very mature for a man of his age, which is why he captains Portugal at U20 level. Nevertheless, we want to give him time and the best possible support during this one-year loan so that he can reach his full potential,” said FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter.
