Post match reaction to Gundelfingen friendly win: “A successful friendly”
In their opening friendly of pre-season, FC Augsburg put six past sixth tier side FC Gundelfingen. New Augsburg signings Ruben Vargas and Florian Niederlechner both scored, the latter twice, as the Fuggerstädter ran out 6-0 winners. Here is the post-match reaction to the win.
Florian Niederlechner: “We have put a tough first week, full of intensive training sessions, behind us. We have also delivered a good first performance against strong opponents to start the summer. I was naturally more motivated to perform as it was my first match for FCA. I wanted to give a good impression to the fans, the coaching team and my teammates. The fact I was able to score two goals makes it even nicer.”
Georg Teigl: “A friendly like this is great to practice new ideas and rills as well as understanding what condition you are in. It is always difficult to play against opponents who defend with such a deep line. This is regardless of whether that team plays in the sixth tier or in the third tier. You can showcase what you can do in these scenarios. I believe we did this well and can continue to improve in the forthcoming weeks.”
Ruben Vargas: “It an unbelievable feeling to play my first match for the club. It was a lot of fun to play with my new teammates. The match was capped off with a goal and helping my team secure a victory. I have arrived and settled well into the tea. We were also successfully able to implement the head coach’s ideas onto the pitch. It doesn’t matter who we are playing, we always want to win.”
Martin Schmidt: “It was a good performance. We want to go into the match full of dynamic and let the ball do the work. Initally, the first half wasn’t easy as our opponents had done their homework and started well. However, we rewarded ourselves with three wonderful first half goals. After the break, I was very impressed with the young team I fielded. We had a lot of fun out on the pitch and it was certainly a successful friendly.”
