Mergim Berisha returns to FC Augsburg
Striker set to wear the number 37
FC Augsburg have signed Mergim Berisha on loan from TSG Hoffenheim for the remainder of the 2024/25 season. The clubs have agreed to keep the details of the loan undisclosed.
Berisha had previously spent the 2022/23 season on loan at FCA from Fenerbahçe. He scored a team-high nine goals in addition to providing four assists in his debut campaign with FCA, earning his first caps for Germany as a result. Berisha debuted for the national team in March 2023 during two friendlies against Peru (2-0 win) and Belgium (3-2 loss). Augsburg triggered the buy clause in the striker's contract and signed him permanently at the end of that season, but he then moved to TSG Hoffenheim shortly after.
Additional option in attack
"I really wanted to return to FCA because this is where I experienced the best time of my career. I felt at home here, scored lots of goals and improved a lot as a player. I'm very grateful to the club's management team for giving me the opportunity to return. I want to play regularly again and will do everything to repay the trust that's been placed in me," Berisha said.
"Mergim knows our club and the surroundings well. He scored some important goals during his time in Augsburg and became a senior Germany international during his time here. Mergim will hopefully find his way back to his old strength while at FCA and his player profile provides us with additional options in attack. We're looking forward to working with him and wish him all the best for a successful time here," said FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic.
Berisha will wear the number 37 shirt for the club.
