Maurice Malone leaves FCA to join Basel
Contract was set to expire in 2024
FC Augsburg have reached an immediate transfer agreement with Swiss giants FC Basel for Maurice Malone. The transfer fee for the 22-year-old attacker is undisclosed.
Malone, who was born in Augsburg and is a product of the FCA youth academy, spent the last three seasons on loan at Wehen Wiesbaden, 1. FC Heidenheim and most recently in Austria for Wolfsberger AC.
“I’m honoured that FCA wanted to extend my contract, but I feel there’s a better chance to get more game time now at Basel, and I want to take that opportunity,” said Malone. “Therefore, I would like to thank the management for agreeing to this transfer, and I wish FC Augsburg all the best for the season ahead.”
“We would have liked to have agreed a new contract with Maurice, as he has continued to develop well over the last months and years. However, he informed us that he didn’t wish to extend, and we respect that decision. We also found a solution with FC Basel that works for all parties,” said FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter.
