Maaßen: "We made the wrong decisions too often"
All the reaction to Augsburg's defeat
Augsburg suffered their fourth loss of the season in the fifth game of the campaign. FCA were once again unlucky in front of goal in the 2-0 defeat against Hertha, and both the players and head coach Enrico Maaßen were disappointed.
Florian Niederlechner: “You quickly realised that the winning team today would be whoever scored first. We just didn’t create enough chances, leaving ourselves with too much to do. We need to win that second ball more and take control of the game. We have a great squad, but our points tally at the moment is too low. Now it’s all about getting our heads up and taking points in Bremen.”
Daniel Caliguiri: “We are all very disappointed, as we had pictured the game going differently. We have taken no points in three successive home games now, so it’s tough to find the right words. We didn’t actually concede many chances, but weren’t able to create enough of our own. We need to try and create more opportunities going forward, and keep working at a high level of concentration."
Rafał Gikiewicz: "It's very annoying that we've lost our third home game in a row. We didn’t do enough today. We have to start getting points again now, and to do that we have to change something. We need to put the fun back into in our football, because we train really well during the week, but three points from five games is not enough. We have to stay positive and make sure we get something in Bremen on Friday night.”
Ermedin Demirović: “Unfortunately we lacked consistency today. We struggled to get back into the game after conceding the first goal, and I think that comes down to a lack of confidence in ourselves. Talking to the fans after the final whistle was good for us; they certainly pushed us again. Now we want to give them three points next week.”
Sandro Schwarz: “It was a very intensive game - we immediately got stuck into the match. We showed good defensive stability over the course of the game and were also strong up front, even though we didn’t create that many clear-cut chances. We got the goal in the second half and turned the game in our favour, so ultimately we earned our victory at the end.”
Enrico Maaßen: “We are very disappointed because we wanted to give our fans their first home win. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to do that, even though we had a good game plan. We were able to apply a good amount of pressure, but we unravelled due to technical errors. We also lacked composure in promising situations, and we made the wrong decisions too often. After we went 1-0 down, we didn't manage to come back. It's very frustrating, but we have to stay positive. And while it is not an excuse, we have to remember who was not available to us today due to injury.”
