Tomáš Koubek to depart for pastures new

Goalkeeper leaves after five years

After five years with the club, FCA goalkeeper Tomáš Koubek is set to depart when his contract expires on 30th June. Talks had been ongoing for several months over a new deal and possible new role, but ultimately the Czech has opted for a new challenge elsewhere.

Koubek joined Augsburg from Stade Rennais in the summer of 2019 and made 40 appearances in all competitions for the club. He deputised for Finn Dahmen in the last three games of the Bundesliga season just gone after a finger injury to FCA’s first-choice stopper.

“After the constructive discussions I had with the board, it wasn’t an easy decision for me to make. But I had the feeling that it was best for me to look for a new challenge, where I’ll have the chance to play regular first-team football,” said Koubek. “In sporting terms, I had certainly imagined that my time at FCA would pan out differently, but I’ll still look back on it with great gratitude, and I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me along the way.”

Jurendic: We wish him the best

“Tomáš has always put the team and the team’s success above all else. We communicated openly with him that we would be updating our goalkeeping situation for the new season, but that this did not rule out him continuing with the club. We understand why Tomáš has now decided to pursue his footballing ambitions and leave FCA. We would like to thank him for his contributions to the club and wish him all the best for his personal and sporting future,” said sporting director Marinko Jurendic.

Koubek offered WWK ARENA send-off

As his departure was yet to be finalised by the season’s end, FCA will give Tomáš Koubek the opportunity to officially bid farewell to the fans at a home game next season.
