A huge honour awaits for FC Augsburg assistant coach Lars Knudsen, who joined FCA in January as set-piece coach and became one of Jess Thorup’s assistants at the start of this season, after he was asked to temporarily take charge of the Denmark national team.

Knudsen will be released by FCA during the upcoming international break in order to deputise for Denmark’s ill interim coach Morten Wieghorst for the home games against Switzerland (Thursday, 5th September) and Serbia (Sunday, 8th September) in the Nations League. Knudsen also worked with the national team as a set-piece coach during the summer’s European Championship.

“When the Danish FA came to us with the request, we didn’t think about it for long, but rather wanted to allow Lars to take on this big responsibility and attractive experience. Therefore, we will be releasing him from his duties here during the international break at the start of September. His responsibilities will be picked up by the rest of the coaching staff during that period,” said FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic. “We want to wish Lars all the best for the international break.”

“I would like to thank the Danish FA for putting their faith in me and also the FCA management for allowing me this opportunity to work with the Denmark national team, just like they did for the European Championship in the summer. It’s not something to be taken for granted and I really appreciate it,” said Lars Knudsen.
