FCA players record further success on the international stage
Friday’s results
Multiple FCA players were in action for their respective nations on Friday night.
Frederik Jensen and Finland celebrated a narrow 1-0 win over Malta in World Cup qualifying, with the 27-year-old playing the full 90 minutes. Jacob Friis, who had been assistant coach at FCA until January, took charge of the Finland national team for the first time.
Cédric Zesiger conceded his first goal for some time as he featured for the entire duration of Switzerland’s friendly contest with Northern Ireland. The final score read 1-1.
Chrislain Matsima was involved in a match-up that saw rather more goals fly in as he and the France U21s defeated England 5-3. The FCA defender was on the pitch for the entirety of proceedings and did give away a penalty in the 63rd minute, although the resulting spot kick was sent high over the crossbar.
Mert Kömür also registered victory with his nation as the Germany U20s defeated Czechia 1-0 in a friendly. FCA’s home-grown midfielder was named in the starting line-up, playing until his substitution in the 72nd minute.
Samuel Essende did not feature during DR Congo’s 1-0 win over South Sudan in World Cup qualifying.
