Khedira: “We want to reward the fans’ faith in us”
Preparations for the next home game on Saturday, 14th September (15:30 CEST) are in full swing now the international break is over. Rani Khedira looks back on the past week and gives an insight into how FCA want to earn a first win of the season against Eintracht Frankfurt.
One point from three games – a disappointing yield for Augsburg so far this season. “One point is not enough, and it’s certainly not what we were aiming for. But you have to admit we could have shut down the Union game earlier and we also had chances in the second half against Bremen,” says Rani Khedira.
Staying calm in training
The international break was the perfect opportunity “to continue to work consistently and to carry on playing,” emphasises the FCA midfielder. “Panicking won’t help our process. But with each passing minute we are feeling more and more comfortable and in tune with each other.” Part of this process is the integration of our new signings into the team, some of whom are quite young. Although experienced players like Khedira can be a great help, everyone is responsible: “The eleven players on the pitch have to support each other and give everything for the win and for their teammates. Then we can start to try and iron out each other’s mistakes.”
Togetherness and desire will be the deciding factors
“Mentality will be the key to success against Frankfurt. Even though they are a strong team, our game is defined by a certain intensity. At the end of the day, it’s going to come down to who wants it more. We definitely want to win, so we have to stop their attacks and defend smartly before finding the right time to strike. On Saturday, the team wants to “raise the roof in the WWK ARENA. Our fans believe in us. We want to reward their faith. Three points would be fantastic.”
