Khedira: "We have to approach this game at 100%"
Defensive midfielder talks to FCA TV
Rani Khedira will leave FC Augsburg after four years at the end of the season. In an interview with FCA TV, he reflects on his time at the club. The 27-year-old also shares the first details on training sessions under Markus Weinzierl and talks about his expectations for Friday's match against VfB Stuttgart (7th May, 20:30 CEST).
"I'm doing really well, I'm really excited for the last three games," said a Rani Khedira who was in a good mood, as the defensive midfielder sees FC Augsburg's position going into the season run-in as a positive one. "We have everything in our own hands and the mood in the dressing room and on the pitch is good. We have used the last few days and worked hard, now we're going to tackle it," said the motivated 27-year-old.
After the 3-2 defeat against 1. FC Köln, Markus Weinzierl was appointed head coach of FCA. "There is a feeling of euphoria and the confidence is back again, which gives everyone a good feeling. There is a lot of laughter during training and we all have the impression that we can get a lot out of it. The feeling of collectivity is back and that is something that's very important at the moment," said Khedira, praising the current mood in the team.
Khedira says that the past few games have unfortunately not gone as he has planned, but he believes that the players must also take responsibility for that: "We all have to look at ourselves, because as players, we're the ones who are in charge on the pitch. We have to move forward, analyse our mistakes closely and do better in the future," said the midfielder.
As the season approaches its end, the team's focus is on the upcoming game against VfB Stuttgart. The match is especially special for Khedira, who will be coming up against his junior club. He knows that the match will be a difficult one, but after the 4-1 defeat in the reverse fixture, he has something to put right. "I am in a positive mood. We will try to play a good game in Stuttgart and take the three points. We have to approach this game at 100%," said Khedira.
Khedira: "I will always think of FCA with a smile"
Khedira will leave FC Augsburg at the end of the season and join 1. FC Union Berlin. "I'm very happy with my time at FC Augsburg," he says, reflecting on the past four years. "My goal was always to establish myself as a Bundesliga player. That's a step I've definitely managed to succeed in doing. I look back on a successful time and will always associate FCA with a smile. The club has developed really well year on year, it's really incredible what has been put together here. There are very good Bundesliga conditions, and you can work very well here." Khedira especially enjoyed games at the WWK ARENA, "I will definitely miss the passion in the stadium."
