Herrlich: "We missed a massive opportunity today"

FC Augsburg beaten by an early goal away to FC Schalke 04. Heiko Herrlich says there was "at least a point" to be had from the game, despite falling behind after four minutes. Full match reaction below: 

Rafał Gikiewicz: "It was a clear mistake on my part so I take responsibility for the loss. Sometimes the situations that look the easiest end up being the most difficult, as we saw for their goal today. We would have had enough time to equalise, but we lacked precision up front. I think you could still see, however, that we wanted to win this game. That’s the attitude we’ll take into our next game against Bielefeld."  

Marco Richter: "It’s a painful defeat – a tough one to take. We knew it would be a difficult game and the early goal obviously didn’t make it any easier. We put on a lot of pressure, especially after the break. I had two or three big chances myself, but we need to look at ourselves and say that we just didn’t take them today."  

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: "That’s about as unlucky as you can be at the start of a game. We didn’t actually give them a real chance at goal, but our own mistake meant they could take the lead. We had several chances to equalise, but we just didn’t score. We missed the chance to take a big step forward today." 

Heiko Herrlich: "We missed a massive opportunity today and imagined a very different game. The early setback came from a goalkeeping error, but we’re obviously not holding that against Rafa Gikiewicz who has secured a lot of points for us already this season. He’s confident enough to chalk that off quickly. We had more possession today and created chances against a deep-sitting Schalke side. Unfortunately we weren’t able to take our chances. There was at least a point in it for us today, despite the early goal, because the chances spoke in our favour. We will look at the game closely and analyse accordingly. Then we will try to get a win next Saturday against Bielefeld." 

Dimitrios Grammozis: "We are really happy to get a taste of victory. This win came from desire and passion.  We had a good game and it was important that we defended very well against an Augsburg team that is very dangerous on the counter after losing possession. It was a defensive battle at the end, but we managed to see our the win."
