Herrlich: “A point would’ve been fair”
Reaction to the defeat against Frankfurt
FCA’s second match of the week ended in a 2-0 loss against Eintracht Frankfurt. “I saw my team put in a good performance with plenty of chances,” said Heiko Herrlich. Here is some reaction to the defeat.
Alfred Finnbogason: “We played really well today, and it could easily have been 4-4 when you look at all the chances. Unfortunately, we didn’t have that final ball. We should’ve got a penalty for the foul on Iago. We won’t let our heads drop though, we’ll keep working to be more consistent and we’re looking forward to the cup game on Tuesday.”
Marco Richter: “The game saw so many chances missed today. We made it hard for ourselves; we need to keep a cooler head in front of goal. I had to score the chance I had before the break too. If I could take it again, I wouldn’t chip it, I’d just smash it. But we’ll forget about this game and look towards Tuesday. We saw today that we fight and can play good football. That makes the defeat hurt.”
Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “We started well and made plenty of chances, but we couldn’t score the all-important goal. I don’t think we’ve had as many chances as that in a game this season, so it makes it even tougher to take that we didn’t score.”
Rafał Gikiewicz: “I think that we deserved at least a point today, but sadly we just weren’t good enough in front of goal. We had so many chances but didn’t use them. We missed the opportunity to grow the gap between us and the relegation zone and get closer to the sides above us.”
Heiko Herrlich: “I saw my team put in a good performance with plenty of chances. We could’ve started the game brilliantly with a goal, but we didn’t capitalise on the opportunity. Frankfurt had one or two chances too though. We shouldn’t have missed the chances so easily. I also saw a clear penalty that wasn’t given. Iago was clearly pulled to the floor – it had to be a penalty. After going behind, we gave everything to get back into it, but it wasn’t enough. I think a point would’ve been fair.”
Adi Hütter: “The win is a real weight off our shoulders after a few unlucky weeks. We fully deserved the win, and we always believed we would get the breakthrough. Hats off to my side; they were brilliant today. The opener was a little lucky but well worked. Augsburg also had good chances, and we needed Kevin Trapp to be on form today. We were also fortunate that FCA didn’t get a penalty when Iago was brought down.”
