Hahn: “It was a fantastic day for us”
Reaction to the win against Schalke
Despite being a man down, FC Augsburg were able to celebrate a 3-2 win away at FC Schalke 05 on Sunday, the third victory in a row for Enrico Maaßen’s team. Both matchwinner and head coach were delighted with the result as they gave their post-match reactions.
Ermedin Demirović: “We knew this would be an emotionally charged game, and it was exactly that over the full 90 minutes. For us it was an incredibly important win as we have now won three in a row. I think I’m still improving game by game out on the left wing, but I’m delighted with the trust I’m getting from the coach and the whole club. I’m happiest when I can help the team – that’s the most important thing.”
André Hahn: “It was a fantastic day for us. We were in a great place after the second goal, but then conceded two goals from counter attacks – they were too simple. We kept believing in ourselves, though, and put their two goals as well as the red card behind us, and kept playing our way forward. That’s how the winner came about. All in all it was a super team performance form us which gives us a real boost.”
Schalke coach Frank Kramer: “FCA were very efficient, but we fought back and put all our energy into the game. The way we came back from 2-0 down was great, and then in the last 20 minutes we had a man’s advantage – we had to do more with that. We needed to be clearer and more precise: the lads were unsettled and were desperate to complete the comeback. All things considered, we deserved to get something out of the game, rather than losing it. We’re all very disappointed, because we were only one step away.”
Enrico Maaßen: “We played fantastically in the first half. We were brave and decisive, and kept looking forward. We wanted to keep that up in the second half, but then we went into a really tough period of conceding two goals and the red card. We changed our system after going a man down, defended as a unit and took our chance perfectly – that meant we deserved to win here. The three points give us a real boost, but we need to keep our heads down and carry this joy with us.”
