Gruezo with convincing win – Córdova loses
World Cup qualifiers in South America
Thursday saw two FCA players in action with their national teams with mixed results.
Carlos Gruezo celebrated a good 3-0 win over Bolivia. After the opener from Michael Estrada (14’) and a brace from Enner Valencia (17’, 19’), the game was as good as over before the 20-minute mark. Gruezo played 90 minutes in defensive midfield, helping Ecuador move into third place in their qualifying group.
Elsewhere, there was defeat for Sergio Córdova. The Venezuelan forward and his side suffered a 3-1 loss to Brazil. Eric Ramirez gave “La Vinotinto” the lead in the 11th minute, before second half goals from Marquinhos (71’), Gabriel Barbosa (85’) and Antony (90+5’) turned the game in the Brazilians’ favour. Córdova came off the bench for the final 15 minutes.
