Gregoritsch starts for Austria
Draw for Córdova in Copa América
Two FCA players were in international action on Thursday night. Michael Gregoritsch started for Austria at EURO 2020, while Sergio Córdova featured for Venezuela at Copa América.
After Austria kicked off EURO 2020 with a 3-1 win over North Macedonia last Sunday, they suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Netherlands last night. Michael Gregoritsch was rewarded with a place in the starting XI after coming off the bench to score in their first group game. Austria conceded a penalty after 10 minutes – David Alaba fouled Denzel Dumfires. Memphis Depay converted to give the Dutch the lead. They controlled the rest of the game and added a second through Dumfries, who tapped home after a square ball from Donyell Malen. The Netherlands are now through to the last 16, whilst Austria will hope to book their place on Monday against Ukraine (18:00 CEST).
Copa América’s second matchday saw Colombia take on Venezuela on Thursday evening. Sergio Córdova, who spent last season on loan at Arminia Bielefeld, came off the bench in the 83rd minute. It was a feisty 0-0 draw which included seven bookings and a red card. Venezuela’s next match is on Sunday against Ecuador (23:00 CEST).
