Goalfest for Vargas and Switzerland
Gregoritsch and Austria beaten in England
Ruben Vargas and Switzerland enjoyed a goalfest in their pre-tournament friendly against Liechtenstein on Thursday night. Michael Gregoritsch and Austria were beaten by England the night before.
With just a 1-0 lead at the break, the Switzerland national team raised the tempo after the restart, bringing on Ruben Vargas and eventually running out 7-0 winners. Mario Gavranovic bagged a hat-trick (19’, 75‘, 79‘), Christian Fassnacht scored twice (46’, 70’). The remaining two came from a Liechtenstein own goal (57‘) and an Edmilson Fernandes strike (85‘).
On Wednesday night, Michael Gregoritsch and the Austria national team lost 1-0 against England. The only goal of the game was scored by Bukayo Saka in the 57th minute. Gregoritsch was brought on in the closing stages and very nearly scored the equaliser with full-time approaching. His header narrowly missed the target.
Sergio Córdova was an unused substitute in Venezuela’s 3-1 World Cup qualifying defeat to Bolivia. Marcelo Moreno (5’, 83’) and Diego Bejarano (60’) scored for the Bolivians. Jhon Chancellor scored the first-half equaliser for Venezuela in the 26th minute.
