Giannoulis and Rexhbecaj on the winning side – Jakić suffers defeat in a shootout
Key games in the Nations League
The next round of Nations League fixtures took place on Sunday. While Kristijan Jakić and Croatia missed out on a place in the semi-finals after losing a penalty shootout, Dimitris Giannoulis and Elvis Rexhbecaj both tasted victory.
Despite going into the second leg on the back of a 2-0 victory last time out, Croatia and Kristijan Jakić were knocked out of the Nations League by France, who won 2-0 and then beat them 5-4 on penalties. Jakić came on in the 81st minute, was quickly shown a yellow card and then later on scored Croatia’s fifth penalty – though three of his teammates missed from the spot.
Dimitris Giannoulis and Elvis Rexhbecaj enjoyed a better evening on Sunday. Giannoulis and Greece won 3-0 in Scotland to win promotion in the Nations League, while Rexhbecaj and Kosovo celebrated a 3-1 victory in Iceland to also move up a division. Both FCA players played the full 90 minutes and put in an impressive performance.
