FCA players knocked out of U21 EUROs
Belio makes appearance
Group stage exit: FCA players Maximilian Bauer, Arne Engels, Dion Beljo and David Čolina all failed to make it through to the quarter-finals of the U21 EUROs in Georgia and Romania with their resepective countries.
Germany U21 succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to England in their final group game on Wednesday, meaning that they finished bottom of Group C having only picked up one point. Maximilian Bauer didn’t appear against England, who qualified for the quarter-finals without conceding a goal.
On Tuesday, Arne Engels, who watched proceedings from the bench, and Belgium U21s exited the tournament. The ‘Red Devils’ conceded a late, contested penalty, with former Bayern player Tiago Dantas coverting to make it 2-1 to Portugal. With the Netherlands only drawing against hosts Georgia, a point would’ve been enough to see Belgium qualify for the next round
Beljo with good opportunities to score
For the Croatia U21 national team, a group stage exit was confirmed even before the final group game. FCA attacker Dion Beljo appeared from the start once again against Romania, with club teammate David Čolina on the bench. Beljo had two good chances to score in the 15th and 38th minutes, with the Romania goalkeeper forced into a couple of good saves. The game finished a goalless draw.
