FCA players at EURO 2020
Big summer ahead for some players
While several FCA players can put their feet up after a long season, others will be involved at EURO 2020 and Copa America over the summer.
EURO 2020 should have originally taken place last summer, however due to the pandemic the tournament was postponed for a year. Now, it will take place from 11th June to 11th July across 11 European cities. Michael Gregoritsch (Austria) and Fredrik Jensen (Finland) have been called up to their nation’s final squads. Gregoritsch & Co. will prepare for the tournament with friendlies against England (Wednesday, 2nd June) and Slovakia (Sunday, 6th June), while Jensen’s Finland will meet Sweden (Saturday, 29th May) and Estonia (Friday, 4th June).
Ruben Vargas (Switzerland) and László Bénes (Slovakia) both have good chances of making the tournament, as they have been named in their country’s provisional squads. Vargas and Switzerland will face USA (Sunday, 30th May) and Liechtenstein (Thursday, 3rd June) prior to the EUROs, with Bénes’ Slovakia scheduled to play Bulgaria (Tuesday, 1st June) and Austria (Sunday, 6th June).
Gruezo and Córdova selected for Copa America
Robert Gumny has been named on Poland’s standby list for EURO 2020. Fredrik Winther, who spent the last six months on loan at Lyngby BK, is part of Denmark U20s squad to play Republic of Ireland (Saturday, 5th June) and Argentina (Tuesday, 8th June).
Away from Europe, Carlos Gruezo will take part in Copa America with Ecuador. That competition will be held in Argentina from 13th June to 11th July. Prior to that, though, Gruezo and Ecuador have World Cup qualifiers against Brazil (Friday, 4th June) and Peru (Tuesday, 8th June).
