Köpenick side score four
Following a narrow defeat in the first of two friendlies, FC Augsburg were beaten 4-1 in the second game against 1. FC Union Berlin.
Head coach Enrico Maaßen fielded a very young side for the second game, handing first-team debuts to new arrival Arne Engels and U19 goalkeeper Marcel Lubik. The match was played on one of the training pitches used by FC Union for their camp, in Campoamor.
The opening phase of the game was promising for the Fuggerstädter – Aaron Zehnter hit a free-kick against the wall after eight minutes, before Lukas Petkov sprinted into the penalty area. Union’s number one, Frederik Rönnow, was quick off his marks though, and denied the opening goal.
That opener then came at the other end. A low left-footed shot from Sven Michel gave Union the lead after 12 minutes. As the half went on, the Köpenick side became more an more ruthless – Kevin Behrens headed a second goal on with just over 25 gone, before Jamie Leweling tapped in a third with 10 minutes of the half left. Lubik was picking the ball out of his net for the fourth time with a few minutes to go until the break, as Michel scored his second.
The second half began with FCA regaining some stability, but the strong Union side let little through until the closing stages. Following a quickly-taken free kick, substitute Florian Niederlechner missed a chance to get a goal back (66’). With 10 minutes to go, the ball finally ended up in the Union net – Petkov fired right-footed and high into the net for the final score to be 4-1.
The next game for FCA will come on Monday (15:00 CET) in Spain against Hungarian side Ferencvaros.
