Berisha on the scoresheet four times
FC Augsburg hosted SC Austria Lustenau in a friendly at the Rosenaustadion during the international break. The Fuggerstädter claimed a 5-2 win against the side from Voralberg, not least thanks to four goals from Mergim Berisha, while the visitors’ final strike was provided by an FCA academy product.
With a total of seven players away on international duty, FCA head coach Enrico Maaßen named a 17-man squad for the meeting with Lustenau that included U19s talents Mert Kömür, Simon Mühlbauer and David Lichtensteiger, who have already been training with the first team this week. The visitors had Henri Koudoussou in their starting line-up, who joined Lustenau on loan from Augsburg in the summer.
The loanee was directly involved in the first attack, too; the FCA academy product burst down the flank and fired at goal, but goalkeeper Daniel Klein was behind it (2’). The opening goal came down the other end after eight minutes. Lukas Petkov collected the ball in the box and laid off for Margim Berisha to make it 1-0. The pair combined again soon after, but Lustenau’s man between the sticks Ammac Helac made the save this time, not to mention the flag being up for offside (17’). Ten minutes later, FCA were able to double their advantage, as Berisha chipped the ball over Helac after a through ball from Florian Niederlechner.
Augsburg were in the ascendancy and won a corner when Helac pushed away Pektov’s effort. The set piece was swung in by Berisha and headed on goal by Julian Baumgartlinger, albeit not far enough away from the keeper. The wait for a third didn’t go on much longer though, as Berisha finally did force the ball over the line to complete a first-half hat-trick (38’). The away side reduced their deficit five minutes later, however. Koudoussou sent Torben Rhein through and he tucked the ball away to make it 3-1 at the break.
The second half began with a change in goal for FCA, with Tomás Koubek taking over from Klein. The Fuggerstädter continued to dominate the game and Berisha’s goalscoring mood wasn’t dropping off, adding his fourth of the day in the 52nd minute. It could have been 5-0 moments later after great combination play between Baumgartlinger, Berisha and Niederlechner, but a Lustenau defender managed to stop the ball crossing the line with a last-ditch intervention.
There was a rare foray forward from Austria in the 66th minute and Koubek had to produce a solid save to keep out another goal from Rhein. The visitors increased in confidence and mustered a number of other efforts that the FCA goalkeeper was able to bat away. Meanwhile, Mads Pedersen demonstrated the clinical edge already seen four times from Berisha to convert from Maier’s hard work and make it 5-1 (82’).
After substitute Kömür fired a right-footed shot over the top, the travelling side were celebrating for the second time. It was Koudossou of all people getting on the scoresheet against his parent club (87’), before referee Maxmilian Riedel blew an end to proceedings in front of 427 spectators at the Rosenaustadion.
FCA: Klein (46’ Koubek) - Framberger, Gouweleeuw (61’ Lichtensteiger), Winther (61’ Rexhbecaj), Pedersen – Baumgartlinger, Maier – Caligiuri, Niederlechner (61’ Kömür) - Petkov (88’ Mühlbauer) – Berisha (61’ Hahn)
