FC Augsburg part ways with Manuel Baum, Jens Lehmann and Stephan Schwarz
FC Augsburg parted ways with head coach Manuel Baum, assistant coach Jens Lehmann and technical director Stephan Schwarz on Tuesday.
“In recent weeks and months, we have done everything possible to overcome our difficult situation. After the 4-0 home defeat against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and the fluctuating performances in the matches before this defeat, we no longer felt we had confidence in the current setup. Consequently, we reached the decision to make a clear change of direction for a successful end to the season and future at FC Augsburg,” explained FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter.
Martin Schmidt will take over duties as head coach immediately. The 51-year-old Swiss coach, who has previously spent time with VfL Wolfsburg and 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga, will lead his first training session on Wednesday, 10th April (11:00 CEST). Schmidt’s first match in charge will be away against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, 14th April (18:00 CEST).
FC Augsburg sporting director Stefan Reuter and club president Klaus Hofmann will host a press conference this evening at 18:00 CEST regarding the change in personnel.
