Demirović: “We came away with a point thanks to Finn”
The reaction after FCA’s 1-1 draw with Köln
An end-to-end encounter between 1. FC Köln and FC Augsburg ended in a 1-1 draw. FCA’s goalkeeper Finn Dahmen impressed on a number of occasions over the course of the match. Here’s the reaction to the game.
Phillip Tietz: “Even though we went into the game with higher hopes, we’ll take a point. Köln made life difficult for us and won a lot of second balls. If you factor in the home support, too, it was a tricky game. Props to our defenders, though – they were amazing today. Finn was fantastic too and he stopped them from scoring another goal. We still had good chances and can take positives from the game.”
Mads Pedersen: “It was a difficult game. The pitch was very slippery; it was like playing ice hockey. Both teams had to deal with it. We had some good chances to make it 2-1, but Köln put in some really dangerous crosses. That being said, we deserved to draw. It’s an important point, since it’s never easy to play in Cologne.”
Ermedin Demirović: “It was a really crazy game. Everyone knows how difficult it is to go to Cologne and come away with anything. Both sides deserved a point, as the game could’ve gone either way. We showed good mental strength after we went behind and came away with a point thanks to Finn.”
Arne Engels: “A draw is a fair result. Both teams had chances and Finn made a great save. It’s a shame that we came so close to scoring just before the end of the game. Playing in Cologne is always tough because of the atmosphere. The pitch was also really slippery.”
Jess Thorup (head coach of FC Augsburg): “I’m not happy with the last 15 minutes. It was too hectic. We wanted to win, but once we realised that it wasn’t going to happen, you have to settle for a draw and we managed to do that. There are still lots of areas where we can improve and we’ll address them over the next few weeks. I’m happy for Finn Dahmen. Today, he said: I’m here for you - and he made sure that we got a point.”
Steffen Baumgart (head coach of 1. FC Köln): “Augsburg hit the woodwork three times, but we also had chances. It could’ve gone either way or it could’ve ended 3-3 today. On the whole, I’m not happy with just a point, as we had a lot of chances to score.”
