Day 9: FCA return from the training camp
Doubleheader against Wolfsburg on Saturday
The FC Augsburg players returned home on Thursday evening after spending just over a week at their winter training camp in Algorfa. Attention now turns to Saturday as FCA take on VfL Wolfsburg for their final friendly before the Bundesliga returns.
The players returned to the WWK ARENA at around 20:30 CET on Thursday evening. It was a very productive trip to Spain with plenty of sessions in the weights room, lots of hard work on the pitch and solid match practice in three friendlies. Enrico Maaßen’s side played twice against Bundesliga rivals Union Berlin (0-1,1-4) and once against Hungarian side Ferencváros (0-2). Most of the 34 players who travelled to Spain were able to get some valuable game time under their belts. The players were also able to enjoy some downtime in Algorfa with some opting for a round of golf and some heading for the beach in Alicante.
“We have come even closer together.”
“We worked really hard and we have come even closer together as a team. In our preparations we set ourselves main areas to focus on and we worked on them meticulously. All in all, it was a very positive experience at the training camp. We had a great training ground, we came up against good opponents in our friendlies and we stayed in an excellent hotel,” explained head coach Enrico Maaßen.
Before FCA resume their Bundesliga campaign against Borussia Dortmund on Sunday 22nd January (15:30 CET), they are set to take on VfL Wolfsburg in a doubleheader this Saturday. The first match (13:00 CET) will take place on the training pitches at the WWK ARENA and the second match (15:00 CET) will take place in the stadium itself. Both matches will take place behind closed doors but the second will be broadcast on FCA TV.
