Baum: We’re feeling relieved!
FC Augsburg have battled from a goal deficit to secure a 3-1 home victory against Hannover 96. A pleased Manuel Baum said after the match: “We’re feeling relieved!” Here is the post match reaction.
Kevin Danso: “It feels amazing to have secured victory today. Apart from the goal we conceded, I think we defended well and also created several chances to score in attack. We had to stay patient after conceding early. We also then showed the desire and passion to turn the match around.”
Alfred Finnbogason: “I’m very pleased and am feeling good after returning to action today. We all know how important today’s victory is for us. I’m also very glad to have played again and helped the team secure a positive result.”
André Hahn: “We fought back superbly this afternoon and showed a lot of passion, courage and a desire to run and work for each other. After our first half performance, it was clear we needed to stay patient and the chances would come for us. I think we deserved to win today. We have moved a little further away from the relegation zone and need to continue the good work.”
Jonathan Schmid: “Everyone knows how important that was for us. We actually defended very well today and managed to create chances going forward. I’m delighted with my goal. I saw that the goalkeeper was anticipating a cross into the box so that’s why I went for goal. We’re pleased with the victory but haven’t achieved everything we want to do just yet. The match against Nürnberg will be tough.”
Daniel Baier: “Ahead of the match, we said that today was the most important match of the season so far. We took on the challenge really well. Additionally, we didn’t make the mistake of underestimating how strong Hannover are as opposition. After falling behind, we didn’t lose our composure, instead showing brilliant mentality to carry us through the rest of the match. We’re pleased that we were able to turn the match around in our favour.”
Manuel Baum: “After securing four valuable points against Dortmund and Leipzig, we wanted to build on this momentum. We achieved this with a deserved victory today. However, we needed to be patient and also to benefit from a stroke of luck so that we could turn the match around. After we scored our third goal to make it 3-1, you could sense the relief around the stadium. Nevertheless, we need to make sure we don’t celebrate today too much and lose our momentum. We have another very important match against Nürnberg in two weeks time.”
Hannover head coach Thomas Doll: “I have to congratulate Manuel Baum and his team for today#s victory. Overall, we played reasonably well away from home and took an early lead. After this early advantage, we failed to capitalise and couldn’t take one of numerous changes to double our lead. We were also unfortunate to not score from Genki Haraguichi’s free-kick in the second half, which crashed the bar. Augsburg then came back powerfully. It is disappointing that we couldn’t take anything from a good performance.”
