Baum: We missed out on victory due to a moment of carelessness

Despite leading twice, FC Augsburg were only able to take a point from their home clash with 1. FC Nürnberg. Manuel Baum’s side conceded an 88th minute equaliser as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.  Here is the post match reaction from the players and coaches. FCA head coach Manuel Baum: “We played superbly well in the first half and really should have taken a two goal lead into half-time. It is bitterly disappointing that we couldn’t take a big chance we created on the counter attack shortly after retaking the lead. It is also a huge shame to have conceded late on. We were not able to fully reward ourselves for our efforts today as we missed out on victory due to a moment of carelessness.” Nürnberg coach Michael Köllner: “We heard about Peter Bircks passing away and I would like to pay my respects on behalf on the club. He would have seen a super derby today, exactly how you would dream a derby to be. FCA were the much stronger side in the first half as they constantly put us under a lot of pressure. However, it was very pleasing to see the way in which we responded in the second half to get back into the match. We are very pleased to have secured a 2-2 draw today.” Daniel Baier: “Merely earning a point isn’t enough when you have played as well as we did in the first half. We will have to accept a point after conceding late on. It is a shame as we had an opportunity to complete the perfect week until we conceded near the end. It is also a real shame that Peter Bircks was not here to send us on our way to victory.” Andreas Luthe: “Nürnberg simply managed to force their way back into the match. We were not able to reward ourselves for the effort that we put in today. We were also not forceful enough. I think the draw is fine but we wanted to come away with our third victory of the week. We have to be satisfied with a point following the match.” Jonathan Schmid, who scored his first goal of the season to restore FCA’s lead: “We did not find the end product on enough occasions in the second half. We also lost our concentration when defending set pieces in the second half. We are a little tired following a busy week and we consequently have to be satisfied at taking a point from today’s match. Unfortunately, I cannot celebrate scoring the free-kick as much due to the 2-2 result.” Alfred Finnbogason, who opened the scoring with his sixth goal of the season: “It feels a little bit like a defeat. We were the stronger side for large proportions of the match and it is disappointing to concede so close to the end of the match. We also didn’t take full advantage of the dominance we had on the pitch.” Martin Hinteregger: “I think we would have secured a victory today if we had scored a second or a third goal earlier in the match. It is therefore so disappointing to only secure a point today. Perhaps we didn’t have luck on our side tonight.”
