Baum: “Our chance conversion was poor”

Similarly to many occasions so far this season, FC Augsburg haven’t been rewarded for a good performance. FCA came away from their home clash with Eintracht Frankfurt empty handed, falling to a 3-1 defeat. “We simply had to play with more belief  in certain situations,” said FCA head coach Manuel Baum after the match. Here is the post match reaction. Andreas Luthe: “I’m a bit lost for words. We won the ball on several occasions and created multiple chances to score. We were extremely vulnerable on the counter attack. That shouldn’t happen to us. Today was simply a match that we couldn’t lose.” Daniel Baier: “We feel pleased with our performance today but are not as pleased that we haven’t scored in over three hours of football. We gave everything but we didn’t come away with a victory as we failed to take our chances. Unfortunately, this is what counts at the end of the match, not your performance.” Martin Hinteregger: “It was difficult to defend against three strong strikers. We also unfortunately conceded at the start of both halves. That can occur but it shouldn’t happen. Nevertheless, we created numerous chances which we were unable to take. We played well but need to score more goals.” Julian Schieber: “The more efficient team won today. 3-1 sounds convincing but we have ourselves to blame as we didn’t make the most of our opportunities. Frankfurt made the ball do the work and took their chances.” Manuel Baum: “After conceding early after a missed challenge, we came into the match and created some chances. It was disappointing to go into half-time behind and then concede a second straight away. It was difficult to respond when 3-0 down but we can take positives out of how we didn’t give up. We continued to create chances and had two clear opportunities to score in stoppage time. Overall, I thought our chance conversion was poor. We simply had to play with more belief in certain situations.” Eintracht Frankfurt coach Adi Hütter: “We are pleased to have won this match 3-1. We should’ve been 2-0 ahead before Augsburg came back into the match. It was a difficult match as Augsburg played well and Kevin Trapp kept us in the match. We could’ve score a couple more goals if we had taken all our chances. We’re pleased to have won in Augsburg for the first time.”
