Aaron Zehnter moves to the 2. Bundesliga
Left-back joins Paderborn
FCA youth player Aaron Zehnter made both his Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal debuts for the first team with short cameos last season. He did not make any more appearances due to the competition in his position from Mads Pedersen and Iago.
The 19-year-old was instead one of the key players for our U23 side in the Regionalliga Bayern, appearing in 16 of 21 possible matches. Now, Zehnter, who joined Augsburg from the Würzburger Kickers youth set-up in 2019, is making the jump into the 2. Bundesliga, having transferred to SC Paderborn with immediate effect. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.
“FCA showed me their view of how my individual development could look in order to become a long-term part of FCA’s first team. I’m honoured that FCA see my potential, but with this transfer I wanted to take the chance to develop further as a regular team member for a 2. Bundesliga club,” Aaron Zehnter said, explaining his decision to move.
A good solution found in SC Paderborn
“Even though we would have wanted to give one of our own youth players the time needed to get closer to the first team, we respect that Aaron didn’t want to extend this contract and wanted to leave at this moment. As Aaron already has the chance to play in the 2. Bundesliga and sees better prospects for the future there, we’ve found a good solution in SC Paderborn,” said FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic.”Of course we’re also very pleased that we’ve made it possible for another FCA youth player to make the jump into first-team football. We wish Aaron all the best for his future football journey.”
At FCA, Aaron Zehnter celebrated winning the U19 Bundesliga Staffel Süd/Südwest title in the 2021/22 season and reached the semi-finals of the German Championship, where the team succumbed to Hertha BSC. While at FCA, Zehnter also appeared for the Germany U18 and U19 sides.
