Weinzierl: "We dropped two points"

Post-match reaction following the 1-1 draw with Bielefeld

First Team 17.10.2021, 20:41

FC Augsburg were held to a 1-1 draw against Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday evening. "We need to be able to play the way we did in the first half over the course of the full 90 minutes," said head coach Markus Weinzierl. Read on for all the post-match reaction from Augsburg.

Arne Maier: "We really wanted to get all three points today. We played well during the first half and deservedly took the lead. But, we lost control of the game in the second half because we stopped winning tackles. We left too many gaps and had to run more to make up for it. We need to take this point and turn our focus to the next game. The atmosphere within the WWK-Arena was really fantastic."

Reece Oxford: "In the end, we're disappointed, but we also didn't lose. We gave it our all right from the start and really wanted to win. I'm happy to have scored my first Bundesliga goal, but I really wish we would have won. We need to take it game by game and collect points."

Daniel Caligiuri: "Overall, one point just isn't enough. We set our expectations high and did well to attack right from the start, especially having our fans urging us on. In the second half, we were too passive and allowed Bielefeld to get into the game. We weren't compact enough and there was far too much space between our lines."

Rafal Gikiewicz: "We beat Gladbach at home and wanted to kickstart a good run at home. We played well during the first half. The only criticism would be that we didn't score another. In the end, we dropped two points because we were far too passive. We let Bielefeld have the ball, but we still managed to create some good chances to score, like with Arne Maier, for example. We were narrowly offside twice, which is why we failed to score the winning goal. Now, we will have to make sure that we play the way we did in the first half against Mainz."

Mads Pedersen: "Immediately after the game, it's a really s****y feeling. Especially given that we played so well in the first half. Unfortunately, we didn't make the most of our chances, as we could have scored a second goal early on. I'm happy that Reece was able to score his first Bundesliga goal because he's s cool guy and he's an important part of our team."

Markus Weinzierl: "We're standing here with two points fewer than we should be. The first half was good from us. We attacked often, but failed to score a second goal. In the second half we were too passive, which allowed our opponents back into the game and they eventually equalised. That was tough, because it was only their second chance on goal. We need to be able to play the way we did in the first half over the course of the full 90 minutes."

Frank Kramer (Bielefeld head coach): "We didn't play well in the first half, and we weren't fully present. It wasn't the start we had hoped for, and it's not how we want to play. In the second half, we had that passion and that energy we want. We were a lot more active in the final third and managed to score the equaliser. We can be satisfied with how we performed after half-time."
