Vargas and Labrović both draw second game of the EUROs
Switzerland in a strong position
FCA players Ruben Vargas and Nediljko Labrović both picked up important points in their second game of the group stage on Wednesday.
Vargas retained his place in Switzerland’s starting eleven from the 3-1 win over Hungary. The 25-year-old mainly operated on the left wing and nearly registered two assists for Dan Ndoye, who was foiled on both occasions by Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn (33’, 58’). The Tartan Army took the lead through Scott McTominay (13’) before Xherdan Shaqiri scored a spectacular equaliser for Switzerland (26’). The game therefore ended in a 1-1 draw.
The draw leaves Switzerland on four points, putting them in a strong position to reach the Round of 16 even if they lose to Germany in their final group game on Sunday (23rd June, 21:00 CEST). Vargas played 75 minutes against Scotland while a special guest was in attendance. FCA captain Ermedin Demirović was supporting his friend Vargas at the Rhein-Energie-Stadion in Cologne.
Labrović and Croatia in danger of elimination
Croatia also faced Albania in Group B yesterday afternoon. FCA new signing Nediljko Labrović was named on the bench once again as Croatia endured another difficult afternoon. Albania led at the break through Qazim Laci, but Croatia turned the game around in the second half through Andrej Kramaric and an own goal. Albania hit back again though to equalise in the dying seconds of the match.
Croatia remain bottom of the group with one point and a goal difference of -3, leaving them to almost certainly need a win over Italy in their final group game (Monday, 24th June, 21:00 CEST).
