Tietz: “A hard-fought and important win”

Quotes following the 1-0 home win over Bochum

First Team 30.11.2024, 19:15

FC Augsburg secured three important points on matchday 12 with a 1-0 win at home to VfL Bochum. Phillip Tietz’s penalty decided a hard-fought game at the WWK-Arena. Here is the post-match reaction.

Phillip Tietz: “It was a scrappy game with lots of tackles – just as we had expected it to be. We also knew beforehand that we wanted to win the match, which we did. We kept things really tight in the first half in particular but struggled a bit in the second period. It was a hard-fought and important win, and we’ve extended our unbeaten run at home too. We can now go into our busy next week full of positivity and we naturally want to be successful on our travels now as well.”

Marius Wolf: “We wanted another win at home and we got just that. If we’re going to be critical of ourselves, then we should have sealed the win earlier on, but we can still be satisfied overall. We were compact in the first half – Bochum created a few chances at the death, but we had our moments too. We now need to keep working on our away form – and hopefully we can start improving it with our two away games next week.”

Alexis Claude-Maurice: “It was a really hard-fought game, and we had to work really hard. We got the three points in the end and that was the most important thing.”

Henri Koudossou: “I’m really pleased that my first start ended in a win. I was obviously a little bit nervous, but that’s just normal. It was a real battle today – we knew it would be because Bochum are a team that possess a lot of physicality. We held our own and the most important thing was that we got all three points.”

Jess Thorup (FC Augsburg head coach): “We knew that we’d have to fight hard today and deal with a lot of long and second balls from Bochum. I think the first half was even, but we managed to go ahead before the interval. We failed to score again in the second half and that would have made things more comfortable for us. Nonetheless, I’m really happy about what was a deserved victory in my eyes.”

Dieter Hecking (VfL Bochum head coach): “It was a scrappy game. There were few clear-cut chances for both sides, especially in the first half. Their penalty just before half time really hurt us. During the break, we felt that we could come back, but Augsburg were then the better side. We had more control again from the 70th minute onwards but failed to get the equaliser.”
