Thorup: “It was a real team performance”
Reaction to the 2-1 win against Gladbach
FC Augsburg were able to celebrate a deserved three points after their win against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday evening. Here is all the post-match reaction.
Keven Schlotterbeck: “We had a really good week of training behind us, and we showed that over large periods today. It was a really good performance, especially in comparison to the last few weeks. The main task was keeping a clean sheet at the back, which we unfortunately didn’t completely manage to do, but it was extremely important to get three points here. We are very happy about that. Despite this, we still need a bit more stability because we also want to finally keep a clean sheet.”
Maximilian Bauer: “The win today is good for us. We’ve conceded a lot of goals in the last few games and wanted to avoid conceding for a long stretch, which we managed to do. Even if it was a bit tight at the end, we played well and deserved to win. We worked hard last week and spoke a lot about what was missing. The aim in the next few weeks is to become even more solid defensively and to do the basics on the pitch.”
Alexis Claude-Maurice: “It feels really nice. I’m very happy about the game and have been waiting for a long time to finally be able to get back out there on the pitch. I’m pleased with my performance, but I know that I can get even better and would like to improve even more. Our mindset was the crucial thing today, especially after last game. The atmosphere was simply brilliant, and it was a great feeling to celebrate together with the fans at the end there.”
Nedijlko Labrović: “I’m really pleased about the win; it was a complete team performance. The overall energy was much better today than last week; every single player gave their all for everyone else. That counts and is also how we will collect our points in the future.”
Phillip Tietz: “In terms of fight, it was an exemplary performance and all in all a really solid game. We gave everything as a team and earned this win for ourselves. I’m especially pleased about Alexis’ debut and his goal because he’s been working really hard over the last few weeks. He’s already shown one or two moves today and I’m certain that he can improve even more.”
Jess Thorup (FC Augsburg head coach): “We did exactly what was needed on the pitch today: We were compact and showed intensity, passion. We hardly let anything through defensively and could have created even better chances in transition. But I’m really pleased overall. The first goal came after a set piece – Keven put that away like a real striker. The second goal from Alexis was also brilliant. His first shot led straight to a goal, which shows the quality that he has. It was a real team performance, we defended really well and deserved to win.”
Gerardo Seoane (Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach): “We’re disappointed in our performance. We made too many errors technically and through that gave our opponents too many opportunities in transition. In the opposition’s half we failed to build up more pressure and to really threaten our opponents – we were missing the necessary penetration. Although we had a lot of possession, we weren’t able to create many chances with it. It will be necessary to think about how we can be more dangerous and add more of a threat in behind.”
