Thorup: “Haven’t achieved anything yet”

FCA host Freiburg

First Team 28.02.2025, 14:30

FC Augsburg will close out Bundesliga matchday 14 at home against SC Freiburg on Sunday evening (17:30 CET). After a 3-0 victory in Mönchengladbach last weekend, FCA are hoping to extend their winning streak at home.

They will face a tough challenge this weekend, as they host fourth-placed SC Freiburg. The Breisgau side are fresh off a 5-0 thumping of Werder Bremen and are currently on a run of four games without conceding. “Freiburg are a top team and have enjoyed a great season so far,” praised FCA head coach Jess Thorup. “We’re taking to the pitch with a clear goal: to win at home.”

Thorup is expecting an evenly-matched game against SC, one in which the details will make the difference. FCA have plenty of reason for confidence ahead of the clash, with the club currently sitting in 11th with 31 points. “We’re delighted to be unbeaten in seven games, but we haven’t achieved anything yet,” said Thorup. “We need to continue taking it game-by-game.”

No major changes to the squad

FCA will likely be able to field the same squad as they did in Mönchengladbach last weekend. Fredrik Jensen did not take part in Wednesday’s open training session, but has since been able to return and train normally. “Freddy brings intensity, pace and clever tactics to our game,” Thorup said about the Finn. “He’s a real team player who helps us out on the pitch.”

The players that have been carrying knocks of late aren’t yet an option for the matchday squad, but have been making good progress. Thorup will have plenty of options to chose from for both his starting line up and bench.
