Thorup: "Our goal is always to win"
FCA host Wolfsburg
FC Augsburg prepare to host VfL Wolfsburg at the WWK ARENA on Saturday afternoon, as they look to extend their club record run of nine games without defeat. The match marks the start of the club's 'Green Week,' which will be centered around the natural resource of water this year.
"That was a massive win in Dortmund," head coach Jess Thorup said, clearly still pleased with his side's performance last weekend. After a 2-1 win earlier this season, FCA were able to do the double over BVB with a 1-0 triumph last weekend. The Függerstädter are currently unbeaten in each of their last nine Bundesliga games, setting a new club record in the process. Thorup's side have also managed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last five matches. "There are a lot of positive things happening at the minute, but our focus always remains on our next game. We still have a tough path ahead of us and we need to continue to perform," Thorup said.
His side now prepare to welcome seventh-placed Wolfsburg to the WWK ARENA, who are currently just three points ahead of FCA in the standings. With tickets to the stadium's home end already sold out, Thorup is expecting a match between two sides that will both be seeking to use their current momentum to their advantage. Ralph Hasenhüttl's side are also riding a long unbeaten streak, having not lost any of their last seven games. "Wolfsburg are having a good season and have a lot of individual talent. They are good from set pieces and in transition, so we will need to be alert there," Thorup warned.
Thorup: "Want to celebrate a home win"
Thorup's side will also be able to head into the match with plenty of confidence, however. "That's important in football!" he said. "Our aim is always to win and if we believe ahead of kick off that we can do it, then we're already on the right path. We want to celebrate a home win with our fans."
The head coach will have the same squad available as he did in Dortmund last weekend. Mads Pedersen, Robert Gumny, Henri Koudossou and Mahmut Kücüksahin all completed parts of team training this past week. "We will have to wait and see whether they're able to return to the squad already, but all four have at least been able to return to the pitch," Thorup shared. Mergim Berisha is also making good progress in his recovery, but is yet to return to team training.
