Dahmen: "We're on a really strong run at the minute"

Post-match reaction following 1-0 win against Wolfsburg

First Team 15.03.2025, 18:50

FC Augsburg remained unbeaten for the tenth straight game after a 1-0 win against VfL Wolfsburg. Phillip Tietz scored the only goal of the afternoon, while Finn Dahmen recorded his sixth straight clean sheet. Read on for all the post-match reaction.

Cédric Zesiger: "It doesn't really matter who we pick up points against, but this run we're on just feels incredibly good! At the minute the team are in excellent form, we're in sync and everyone knows what to expect from each other. We're very compact when we play, are tough in the tackles and if someone does make a mistake, someone else is there to cover for them. We need to remain this focused and confident in order to continue picking up points after the international break."

Phillip Tietz: "I just enjoy scoring against Wolfsburg, as we saw earlier this season already! I'm obviously very happy to have scored again today, but the success of the team comes first. We're doing a great job at the minute and are really enjoying being out on the pitch. Being unbeaten in ten games obviously gives us confidence, but we're still taking it game by game. Next, we have the international break and after that our full focus will be on Hoffenheim."

Finn Dahmen: "We're delighted because going ten games without defeat is an incredible feat for FC Augsburg. It's a lot of fun and we're on a really strong run at the minute. Just like we have in recent weeks, we defended well once again today. Wolfsburg are a strong team and we managed to find good ways of getting past them. There were a few times where we needed to be alert, but we deservedly won and kept a clean sheet – as long as we manage that, then we know that one goal will be enough to win."

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: "Being able to crown my 250th Bundesliga game – which also makes me the Dutch player to have featured in the most matches in the division – with a win makes today the perfect day. Things are going well for us right now, but we also put in a lot of hard work to achieve this. We struggled a little bit at the start but then took control after about 20 minutes and scored the opener at the right time in the second half. Wolfsburg were pressing hard at the end, but we threw ourselves into every challenge and also had luck on our side. What's also contributed to our strong form during this run has been the fact that we take it game by game, which is what we'll continue to do during the next weeks as well."

Jess Thorup (FC Augsburg head coach): "Ten games without defeat is something which we can be very happy about. On the other hand, we still have eight games left. It was a close game today and neither team allowed many chances at the back. We didn't get off to a great start during the first 15 to 20 minutes, but after that we were the better team and scored the goal we needed. Heading into the international break on the back of three points is a great feeling and we will now use this time in order to recover and to prepare for what's still to come."

Ralph Hasenhüttl (VfL Wolfsburg head coach): "Congratulations to Jess and the team on the win. Today's game was as we expected and the details ended up making the difference. We didn't give up many chances, but all it took was one moment of letting our focus slip where we didn't defend well. It was a similar story earlier this season but on that occasion, we managed to find an equaliser. Today, we weren't able to, despite having the chances to do so. In the end, it wasn't a good enough performance to take any points home with us against an FCA side that defended well, and so deserved to win."
