The schedule for FCA’s players at EURO 2020
Vargas, Jensen and Gregoritsch’s fixtures
EURO 2020 begins on Friday. Three FC Augsburg players will be involved in the tournament, and here’s an overview of their fixtures.
Just like at EURO 2016 in France, 24 teams will take part in the tournament, split into six groups. The top two in each group will reach the last 16, plus the four best third-placed teams. EURO 2020 will be played across 11 different European cities, with the final to be held in Wembley, London on 11th July.
FCA’s Ruben Vargas (Switzerland), Fredrik Jensen (Finland) and Michael Gregoritsch (Austria) have been called up to represent their respective national sides. Here’s an overview of their fixtures:
Vargas & Switzerland hoping to reach the knockouts
Switzerland got out of their group at the last EUROs in 2016, and will be hoping to repeat the trick again this year. However, Vladimir Petkovic’s side have a tough group in the form of Italy, Turkey and Wales. As well as Vargas, there are 11 Bundesliga players in their squad, whilst their star men both play in England: Granit Xhaka at Arsenal and Xherdan Shaqiri at Liverpool.
Switzerland’s fixtures (Group A):
Wales vs. Switzerland (Saturday, 12th June, 15:00 CEST, Baku)
Italy vs. Switzerland (Wednesday, 16th June, 21:00 CEST, Rome)
Switzerland vs. Turkey (Sunday, 20th June, 18:00 CEST, Baku)
Jensen and Finland’s first tournament
Finland have qualified for the EUROs for the first time ever. They will, however, go into their group with Belgium, Denmark and Russia as the outsiders. Jensen, Lukas Hradecky (Leverkusen) and Joel Pohjanpalo (Union) are all representing Finland from the Bundesliga. The star of Markku Kanerva’s team is ex-Schalke striker Teemu Pukki of Norwich City.
Finland’s fixtures (Group B):
Denmark vs. Finland (Saturday, 12th June, 18:00 CEST, Copenhagen)
Finland vs. Russia (Wednesday, 16th June, 15:00 CEST, St. Petersburg)
Finland vs. Belgium (Monday, 21st June, 21:00 CEST, St. Petersburg)
Austria with plenty of Bundesliga experience
Austria’s last two European Championships in 2008 and 2016 both ended at the first hurdle, so they will be hoping to reach the knockouts this time around. They will meet the Netherlands, Ukraine and North Macedonia in Group C. Coach Franco Foda has named 20 players from the Bundesliga in his squad, led by captain David Alaba.
Austria’s fixtures (Group C):
Austria vs. North Macedonia (Sunday, 13th June, 18:00 CEST, Bucharest)
Netherlands vs. Austria (Thursday, 17th June, 21:00 CEST, Amsterdam)
Ukraine vs. Austria (Monday, 21st June, 18:00 CEST, Bucharest)
