Successful debut for Reece Oxford
After a cameo against Mainz last weekend, Reece Oxford made his first Augsburg start in the DFB-Pokal during the week against Holstein Kiel.
“It was a very intense game and we really had to fight, but in the end we’re happy about the win,” said Oxford after the game. The defender won 80% of his tackles and played a key role in keeping Augsburg’s clean sheet. Oxford played in defence with Kevin Danso, who, despite being born in Austria, was raised by his Ghanaian family in England. “Kevin and I understand each other very well. I’ve known him for a while, as we’ve played against each other a lot with our national sides. It’s also an advantage that we both speak English,” he added.
Oxford feels well-integrated with the team
It’s not just his relationship with Kevin Danso that has led to Oxford’s good start at Augsburg. The whole team made him feel at home from his first day: “I’ve only been in Augsburg for a week, but I feel as though I’ve been here for longer,” said Oxford. Following the cup win and his first start, Oxford is looking for more: “I want to get myself in the starting XI as often as possible here in Augsburg. To do that I’ll need to put in good performances in training everyday and work on myself.” The defender looks set to add to the eight Bundesliga games he has to his name so far.- Tags:
