Rexhbecaj: "Pull ourselves together”
Reaction to the 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg
FC Augsburg have picked up their first away point of 2023. However, Enrico Maaßen’s side led for over 90 minutes at Wolfsburg and only conceded the equaliser in the last minute. Here is the post-match reaction to the game.
Elvis Rexhbecaj: “We were slightly lucky at times in the first half that Wolfsburg didn’t score. We defended a lot better in the second half and Wolfsburg were only really dangerous from long shots. We threatened now and again ourselves and would have wrapped the game up with a third goal. Only getting a draw after conceding from a set piece and then in the last minute is really hard to take. We can now either moan about it or pull ourselves together and go again.”
Rafał Gikiewicz: “It feels like two points dropped today. Even if a draw against strong opposition like Wolfsburg is a good result for us, the way in which we conceded the goals at the end of the game is very frustrating. The coach said to us after the game that we can beat anybody if we play our own game. We need to believe that and do better against Köln!”
Enrico Maaßen: “Wolfsburg had the odd chance in the first half, but we were clinical and led 2-0 at the break. We kept things tight after the break, so we are frustrated with the way we conceded the goals. We have to cut out the basic mistakes. We saw today that we can beat anybody if we stick to our game plan. We shot ourselves in the foot in key moments. We’re disappointed to have drawn 2-2 after the game.”
Niko Kovač: “Their first goal was an own goal and their second came from an unnecessary loss of possession. We had lots of chances and could have actually led ourselves in the first half. We have to be more clinical in the final third. We ultimately feel like the winners after coming back from 2-0 down to equalise in the 96th minute. Overall, like Enno, I’m not totally satisfied because we could have got more from the game.”
