Patric Pfeiffer switches loan club, joining Magdeburg from Young Boys
Until the end of the season
Centre-back Patric Pfeiffer's loan spell at Swiss side BSC Young Boys has been ended ahead of schedule in order for him to join German second-tier team 1. FC Magdeburg for the remainder of the season. The 25-year-old is under contract at FC Augsburg until 30th June 2027.
During his time with the Bern-based club, Pfeiffer managed a sole appearance in domestic cup competition as well as being substituted on in the 70th minute of a 5-1 loss in the Champions League at the hands of VfB Stuttgart. He had been repeatedly restricted for minutes due to injury and now looks to rediscover some form in the German second division. He holds fond memories of playing at this level after achieving promotion to the top flight with SV Darmstadt 98 back in 2023. Magdeburg are in the running for achieving that same feat in the current campaign, currently occupying third spot.
“We keep a close eye on all of our loan players and, based on our analysis of the situation, we have decided to end Patric’s loan in Switzerland early in order for him to join Magdeburg in Bundesliga 2,” explained FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic. “He has already proved in the past what a key component of the defensive set-up he can be at that level due to the qualities he possesses. Hopefully, he can get back to that with this move. We wish him great success but also primarily an injury-free remainder of the season.”
“Injuries unfortunately shaped my time in Bern and this switch of clubs is definitely the right step for me so that I can make a fresh start. Magdeburg is a club steeped in tradition and history and they play an attractive and effective brand of football. I will give it my all in order to help my new team to achieve their targets for this season,” said Patric Pfeiffer.
