Matsima nominated for January's Rookie of the Month award
Fans can vote for the centre-bac
Chrislain Matsima has enjoyed a strong start to the year, with the 22-year-old featuring for the full distance of every competitive game in addition to scoring his first Bundesliga goal. He has now been nominated for the Bundesliga's Rookie of the Month award as a result.
Each month, the Deutsche Fußball-Liga (DFL) nominates a selection of players for both its Player and Rookie of the Month awards. In order to meet the criteria for the rookie award, a player must be no older than 23 at the start of the season and cannot have featured for more than 450 minutes prior to the current Bundesliga campaign. In addition to Matsima, Michael Olise (FC Bayern München) and Konstantinos Koulierakis (VfL Wolfsburg) have also been nominated for January's award.
Matsima joined FCA last summer and has gone on to earn himself a spot in the starting line-up. He scored his first goal for the Függestädter during the 2-1 win at home against Heidenheim. Most recently, FCA announced that they would be triggering the option to buy the centre-back, who had previously been at the club on loan from AS Monaco.
In addition to the votes tallied from clubs and experts, fans can also play a part in determining January's Rookie of the Month. Voting started on Monday (3rd February) at 16:00 CET and will close on Thursday, 6th January at 23:59 CET. Vote for Chrislain here!
