Dahmen: “Long may it continue!”

Reaction to Saturday’s win in Gladbach

First Team 22.02.2025, 18:58

We gathered the post-match reaction after Alexis Claude-Maurice’s hat-trick secured FC Augsburg a 3-0 win away to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “The win feels amazing. We were under pressure early on, but we have confidence in our defence to be able to get through periods like that as a team. There was more space for us after the red card, but we were a little impatient in front of goal at first. At half time, we talked about our belief that we would score a goal. I’m really happy for Alexis getting a hat-trick. We’re happy to come away with the three points to increase the cushion to the teams at the bottom.”

Alexis Claude-Maurice: “I’m really happy with the win and my three goals. It’s an honour for me to be the first Augsburg player to score a Bundesliga hat-trick in one half, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the rest of the team. We had more room to work with after the red card and we stayed patient, then we grabbed the decisive goals. Now it’s about turning our focus to the next game – nothing more.”

Finn Dahmen: “We were really poor immediately after the red card and were lucky not to go behind. We upped our game in the second half though and scored our goals at the right times. As a goalkeeper, I’m always happy to keep a clean sheet, but it’s an effort from the whole team. We’re solid defensively at the moment and are in good form – long may it continue!”

Jess Thorup: “We didn’t start well. You saw Gladbach’s strengths in possession in the first ten minutes and we were made to work defensively. Then came the red card, but Gladbach continued to be the more dangerous side and had the better chances. We probably assumed that it would be easy for us after the sending-off. We addressed that quite clearly at half time and I was a little louder than I am normally. We were much improved in the second half. We had control of the game and created openings. Alexis Claude-Maurice in particular played brilliantly and deservedly got his hat-trick. Being on a seven-match unbeaten run gives us a lot of confidence for the challenges ahead.”

Gerardo Seoane: “We had a good opening period, but we weren’t incisive enough. We should have made more out of the opening half an hour. The red card was crystal clear and influenced the game, but it didn’t decide it. The more the match went on, the more pressure FCA put us under. We should have defended the goals better. The team tried to deal with everything they could, but you saw today how good someone like Claude-Maurice is between the lines – the goals speak for themselves.”
