Giannoulis and Greece win at Wembley
Late Croatia call-up for Labrović
FCA defender Dimitris Giannoulis started for Greece in their dramatic 2-1 victory against England on Thursday evening. The side dedicated the win to teammate George Baldock who sadly passed away this week.
Dimitris Giannoulis played the full 90 minutes at the home of English football and defended well against Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka. Striker Evangelos Pavlidis scored the winner in the fourth minute of second-half injury time. Before kick-off, there was a minute of silence in memory of George Baldock, who most recently played for Panathinaikos and passed away this week at the age of 31.
Samuel Essende also had a successful evening of football with DR Congo, starting in his nation’s 1-0 win over Tanzania and playing 74 minutes. The victory sees DR Congo pick up crucial points in the AFCON qualifying campaign.
Fredrik Jensen did not feature for Finland as they let a lead slip to lose 2-1 against Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Nations League.
A surprise 25th birthday present
Nediljko Labrović was subject to a pleasant surprise on the day of his 25th birthday. After overseeing FCA’s 1-0 friendly victory against Jahn Regensburg from the bench, he received a call-up to the Croatia national team and travelled to link up with the squad. Croatia face Scotland on Saturday, 12th October and Poland on Tuesday, 15th October.
