FCA sign Chrislain Matsima on a permanent basis
Long-term contract until 2029
FC Augsburg have triggered the buy-option included in Chrislain Matsima's contract, signing the centre-back to a permanent deal following his initial loan from AS Monaco. The 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a long-term contract at FCA, valid until 2029, having scored his first Bundesliga goal for the club during last weekend's 2-1 win against 1. FC Heidenheim.
Matsima has quickly established himself as a key figure within the FCA backline. He has featured 15 times for Jess Thorup's side in 2024/25 and has consistently delivered strong performances. The Frenchman has featured in both of FCA's DFB-Pokal games this season as well. He has also been able to collect plenty of international experience as well, most recently donning the captain's armband for the France U21s in their match against the Germany U21s.
Ambitious player with plenty of potential
"Chrislain has undergone a strong development at FCA over the last months. In particular, he has impressed with his ability to win challenges and his intelligence. Chrislain is an ambitious player with plenty of potential and we want to continue to support his development at FCA, which is why the next step for us was to trigger the buy-clause in his contract. We're delighted that we will be able to continue to work together and to have been able to offer him a new contract, and wish Chrislain all the best for continued success at FCA," said sporting director Marinko Jurendic.
"I'm very happy to have completed a move here," said Matsima. "I feel very well-supported here in Augsburg. The support from the club, the team and the fans has made me feel extremely welcome here right from the start. I feel as though I will have the best options to be able to continue to develop as a player and be successful here."
