FCA sign attacking midfielder Masaya Okugawa
Another free transfer
FC Augsburg have added another attacking threat with the signing of Masaya Okugawa from Arminia Bielefeld. The 27-year-old Japanese midfielder completed a medical in Augsburg this week and has now put pen to paper on a three-year deal.
The attacking midfielder, who is able to shoot with both feet, scored eight goals for Arminia in their most recent campaign in the Bundesliga in 2021/22. He contributed five goals and 10 assists for the club in the second division last season. Okugawa missed both legs of the relegation play-off against SV Wehen Wiesbaden due to a collarbone fracture.
“We’ve been in touch with FCA for a while now, and I’m very happy to be back playing in the Bundesliga soon. The surroundings in Augsburg are ideal and the team has a lot of talent and a great mentality. I want to show what I’m capable of during pre-season and earn a spot in the starting line-up,” said Okugawa.
“Masaya Okugawa is a fast, nimble player with strong dribbling skills who can pose a threat in the final third and find creative solutions on the pitch. He can play both as a number 10 and on both wings, and has consistently contributed both goals and assists in recent years. We have been able to add another element of unpredictability with his signing,” said board member for sport Stefan Reuter. Okugawa is the third player to join FCA on a free transfer this summer.
