FCA loan Cédric Zesiger from VfL Wolfsburg
Buy option included
FC Augsburg have secured the services of Cédric Zesiger for the rest of the season. The 26-year-old defender, who can play as a centre-back or left-back, has joined on loan from VfL Wolfsburg. FCA have also obtained a buy option for the Switzerland international. The two clubs have agreed that all other details of the deal will remain undisclosed.
Cédric Zesiger, who won the Swiss Super League three times and the Swiss Cup twice with BSC Young Boys, joined Wolfsburg for the 2023/24 season after making 148 appearances in Switzerland’s top flight for Grasshoppers Zürich and YB. The 1.94m tall defender played 23 games in his maiden Bundesliga campaign and started each of Wolfsburg’s first five games of the current season. Zesiger was part of Switzerland’s squad at EURO 2024, though he didn’t feature in the tournament.
Tough-tackling defender with Bundesliga experience
“I’m pleased to have completed my move to Augsburg. I want to help the team to be successful in the second half of the season. FCA are an established Bundesliga club and I’m certain this is the right place for me to be,” said Cédric Zesiger, who will wear the number 16.
“Cédric is a tough-tackling defender, who will provide us with another option at the back thanks to his physicality and aggressive style of play. He knows the Bundesliga and can help our team immediately. The signing of Cédric has quickly addressed the short-term gap that has arisen in our defence. We’re looking forward to working together and wish him a good start and all the best at the club,” explained FCA’s sporting director Marinko Jurendic.
