FCA appoint Enrico Maaßen as the club’s new head coach
Number one candidate hired
FC Augsburg have secured their number one candidate for the role of head coach. Enrico Maaßen, who led Borussia Dortmund’s U23s to the 3. Liga and enjoyed a successful season with them there in 2021/22, has agreed to join FCA. The club have been able to come to an agreement too with Borussia Dortmund on an immediate move. The contract details will be finalised over the coming days.
“We have followed Enrico Maaßen’s development closely over the last few years because he’s a young and hungry coach, who wants him and his team to keep improving. He works really closely with young players and has shown that he can successfully develop them too,” said Stefan Reuter, FCA sporting director. “During our in-depth and positive conversations, he made it clear that he wants to play a modern style of football, which is what FCA and our team needs. We are convinced that Enrico Maaßen will be able to develop our team with his exciting football and great personal skills. We’re delighted that he chose FCA over many other offers he had.”
“I had some really good chats with the bosses at FCA that impressed me. I’m pleased to get this chance to prove myself and to hopefully build something in the long run here at Augsburg together with the team,” said Enrico Maaßen. “I’m looking forward to the upcoming sporting challenges and I can hardly wait for our home games at the WWK Arena. I would like to thank BVB for allowing me to take this next step in my career.”
