Caligiuri: “We couldn’t turn it back in our favour”
Reaction to the away trip to Köln
FC Augsburg were defeated 3-2 by 1. FC Köln in an eventful game. “Playing here is never easy. Alongside Dortmund, playing here is the most difficult away trip,” said Florian Niederlechner at full time. Here’s the reaction to the game.
Elvis Rexhbecaj: "It was an honour to be able to captain the side today, but if I’m being honest, I would have rather won the game. We had the advantage by taking the lead, but Köln applied a lot of pressure without creating any real chances. We didn’t see the win over the line because we allowed them to score goals too easily; we shouldn’t allow the third goal straight from a throw-in."
Daniel Caligiuri: "I’m obviously pleased with my goal and I have to say that Flo did really well setting it up. However I’d have rather got the win and the three points. After going behind, we came back well but didn’t manage to turn the game back in our favour. Despite that, compliments have to go to our defensive line. They did really well considering that it was their first time playing together."
Florian Niederlechner: "Congratulations to Köln; simply put, they played really well and were better in front of goal. It’s never easy to play here. Alongside Dortmund, this is the most difficult away trip. Unfortunately we couldn’t win the decisive duels and this is our first loss in a long time. The good thing is that we’re playing midweek and can respond quickly."
Enrico Maaßen: "On the whole, Köln’s win is deserved. They were better overall and despite having played in midweek, they were really dangerous. We started the game well and scored a nice goal to take the lead. After that, we were too passive and our spells in possession were too short. The goals that we conceded should have been defended better. We have to work on that and show a better performance against Bayern and Leipzig."
Steffen Baumgart: "We’re really pleased to have won the game. We played a lot in their half in the first half, but Augsburg defended well. My team always believed in themselves and played forwards with a lot of intensity. After conceding the equaliser to make it 2-2 we didn’t lose the belief and deserved the win."
