Berisha makes Germany debut
Fourth FCA player to make an appearance for Germany
FC Augsburg has a new Germany national team player. Mergim Berisha was subbed on by national team head coach Hansi Flick during Germany’s friendly against Peru. Meanwhile, several other FCA stars represented their country during this international break.
Germany hosted an international friendly against Peru in Mainz, and for just the fifth time ever, an FCA player was named in the squad. Mergim Berisha’s recent performances in the Bundesliga (8 goals, 4 assists) mean he has more than warranted the call-up. His big moment came in the 75th minute when the attacker came on to replace Niclas Füllkrug, and he would go on to play centre-forward for the final quarter of an hour. Germany prevailed comfortable 2-0 winners and have a further friendly against Belgium coming up on Tuesday, 28th March.
Ruben Vargas too had a successful Saturday night with his national team, as Switzerland won 5-0 in Belarus. Vargas started the game and played 66 minutes. This week also saw Ermedin Demirović and Bosnia-Herzegovina pick up a 3-0 victory in their friendly against Iceland, with the 25-year-old involved until the 82nd minute.
On the other hand, Fredrik Jensen and Robert Gumny had to endure some tough results. The former did not feature as Finland lost 3-1 against Denmark, the latter suffered a 3-1 defeat with Poland against the Czech Republic, with Gumny coming on in the 9th minute.
New signings Dion Beljo and David Colina both started for Croatia U21s as they drew 0-0 in a friendly against Israel. Arne Engels also started for Belgium U21s and played all of the first half of their friendly against the Czech Republic, which also finished goalless.
Renato Veiga and Portugal U20s drew 1-1 against Romania, with Veiga playing the entire match. New first-team player Mert Kömür made a brief appearance for Germany’s U18s in their narrow 4-3 defeat against France.
