Assistant coach Jonas Scheuermann has informed FC Augsburg of his wish to leave the club to move to the English Premier League. His new club will announce his arrival when all the formalities are complete.

Scheuermann was very keen to take this opportunity to gain some experience abroad, and FCA were willing to let their long-serving assistant coach seize this chance. The FCA board and Jonas Scheuermann agreed to the move after talks. The two clubs have decided not to disclose the terms of the transfer.

A long-serving and well-respected coach

“After Jonas told us he wanted to leave the club, we decided to fulfil his wish after engaging in good and honest conversations. He is a long-serving and well-respected member of our coaching staff who has played his part in FCA’s success over the past few years. He’ll always have a place in the history of our club. Jonas has shown that you can have a positive impact at FCA not just as a player but also a coach,” said FCA CEO Michael Ströll. “We’d like to thank him for his efforts at FCA and wish him all the best for his time in England.”

“I’m very thankful to FCA, not just for the past eight years in the Bundesliga, but also for allowing me now to take this opportunity. As a youth coach at Augsburg, I was given the chance to pick up vital experience, continue my education as a coach and then work in the Bundesliga for many years. I really appreciate that,” said Jonas Scheuermann. “I’m now really looking forward to this new challenge in the English Premier League.”

“Jonas Scheuermann now has the chance to take the next step in his coaching journey and work in the Premier League. He’s earned this chance through his good work at FC Augsburg. We wish Jonas all the best for his sporting and professional future. His duties in the trainer team will be divided up internally to start with so that we can make up for his departure,” added FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic.

Scheuermann began as a youth coach at FCA

Jonas Scheuermann came to FCA in 2015 as assistant coach of the U19 side. He was promoted to the first-team coaching staff during the 2016/17 season, where he served eight seasons as an assistant coach. FCA also allowed him to take part in the German Football Association’s Pro Licence programme, which he successfully completed early this year.
