Baum: “Every victory gives us confidence”

After beating Hannover 96 3-1, FC Augsburg can now focus their full attention on the next game. The players were back in training on Tuesday, preparing for Saturday’s home game against SV Werder Bremen. Before training, FCA coach Manuel Baum spoke about… …the injury situation: “I think Jeffrey Gouweleeuw is more likely than Alfred Finnbogason to be fit again after the international break. It is easier to judge a return date with ligament injuries, than it is with muscle or tendon injuries. I think that both should be able to attempt a return to the training pitch next week, and then we’ll just see how it goes.” …the 40-point mark: “Earning our 35th point in the Hannover game was important for us. If you have 38 points going into the international break, with seven games remaining, then you’re in a great position, as you’re just two points short of that 40-point mark. However, before the Hannover game we went four games without a win, so we know how tough it is to keep picking up points. After the Hannover game, it was like a weight had been lifted off the lads, as they’d managed to put in a good performance, in spite of our current injury situation." …our next opponents from Bremen: “Werder are a good team. They have a very flexible, strong front line, led by Max Kruse. While Kruse was injured in the first half of the season, Werder did not pick up many points, but since then they have gained a lot of confidence. They also have a quality midfield that can certainly cause you problems. Every victory gives us confidence, and Werder will see that when they face us. However, they are only five points above the relegation zone, so they’ll play aggressively and will do their utmost to put in a performance.”
